Basics of how to hold a knife and perform simple cutting actions.
When holding a knife, grasp the handle and firmly pinch the base of the blade between your thumb and first finger.
This gives the knife stability and keeps it from rotating/twisting in your grasp.
When chopping, keep the end of the knife planted to the cutting board and see-saw the knife up and down in place.
Move the food you're chopping towards the blade, keeping your fingertips tucked back in a claw-like hold.
When slicing, keep the end of the knife planted to the cutting board and slide the knife towards you through the food.
Pick the blade up and reposition it between slices, again keeping your fingertips tucked back in a claw-like hold.
